DIY Ornament using Chalk Paint

November 22, 2017 Lindsey Hanson

Well first of all happy early Thanksgiving to you all!  I'm so excited to share this fun little DIY project I did this week.  I've teamed up with DecoArt to show you how easy their products are to use.  Here is what you'll need to get from your local craft store.

1. Americana Chalkboard Paint (Hobby Lobby)

2. DecoArt Metallic Lustre, I used Champagne Ice (Hobby Lobby)

3. Pre-Sliced wood, I found a bag at Hobby Lobby that had a range of different sizes.

4. Round Foam Brush, or paint brush (Hobby Lobby)

5. Jute or string

6. Chalk pen

First step is to drill a hole using a small bit.  It just needs to be large enough to get a string though it.  Then dust it off well so wood shavings don't get into your paint.

Next, I used the foam circle brush and pressed it straight down and slowly turned the wood slice until I made a big O.  Then I filled in the inside the same way.  The great thing about this product is how quickly it dries.  I was ready for the next step about 10 minutes later.

I simply swiped my finger in the product and gently rubbed it on the outside of the wood slice, making sure I didn't get it on the front at all.  You don't have to do this step if you like the more rustic look but I wanted it be rustic glam. ;)

After that dries you're ready to go!  I knew I wanted to do each family member's initial on mine because they were going on our stockings.  But these would also be great gift tags, wine tags (for those holiday parties), and how cute would these be at the dining room table for place settings?!  I'm telling ya the ideas are endless.  Here are some after photos with my finished product in my home.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I'd love to hear your feedback!  Leave a comment below letting me know if you'll try this fun little project.  This would be a great one to do with the kiddos over holiday break.  Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving, till next time!
